This framed Hahoe mask set includes Yangban, Bune, Sonbi, Chung, Kagsi (a bride), Choraengi (a busybody), Baekjung successively from the top. Hahoe masks have been used in Hahoe Tal Chum (Hahoe Mask Dance Drama), one of Korea's most traditional folk plays featuring various allegorical characters, such as Yangan (an arrogant aristocrat), Sonbi (a pedantic scholar), Bune (a flirtatious young woman), Chung (a depraved Buddist monk), Imae (a foolish servant), Baekjung (a coarse butcher), Halmi (an old widow) and more. Hahoe Tal Chum has been performed as a village ritual in Andong area of Gyeongsang-do province since Goryeo Dinasty (918-1392).

Choraengi Tal (a busybody mask) has a lopsided brown face with buck teeth that reveal his discontent. The characteristics of Choraengi are generally flippant expressions of a slave of the Yangban. The protruded forehead means the stubborn figure who disagrees with his master. His short nose represents his hasty actions. He simply cannot resist meddling in other people's lives.

The generally ill-tempered nature of Baekjung Tal (a coarse butcher mask) shows a malicious figure with murderous intent when drooping his head. When he is leaning backwards he has an insane grin because of his sense of guilt derived from killing living creatures. His crooked forehead signifies he is of a sinister and cruel nature.
