Nami Island (Namiseom)

Nami Island Winter snow

Nami Island was formed as a result of the construction of the Cheongpyeong Dam. It is a half moon shaped isle. Walking into the island along the straightway starting from the Nami Island wharf, you can find a grave of General Nami this island named after. This island has a wide grassplot and various trees including chest-nut trees, birches, ginkgo trees, maples and more.

The island is well equipped with the facilities for recreation and accommodation, a zoo, a botanical garden, camping sites, swimming pools and water-sports facilities for motorboats and water skiing. People love this island as a rest place to provide young people with romance, lovers with reminiscences, families and workers with affection.

A special feature of Nami Island is that there are no telephone poles. This is because all electric wires were built underground to keep the natural feeling of the landscape. The island is really great for relaxing and enjoying the nature. You can rent bike or take electric car tour or walk slowly on the forest path surrounded by pines or have a picnic on the grass.

Winter Sonata, Gyeoul Yeonga in Korean, was first released in Korea in January of 2002 quickly becoming one the most popular shows on television. Winter Sonata was released in 2001 to the Hong Kong audience and later released in China and Japan. Broadcast on NHK BS2 television in Japan, it was first shown in April to September of 2003. Due to popular demand, it was aired again in December 2003. The demand is growing internationally for this love story that steals the hearts of all who watch.

Nami Island (Namiseom) is the location where many scenes were shot. Many people were addicted to Bae Yong Joon as Kang Joon Sang and Choi Ji Woo as Jeong Yu Jin, the main characters of Winter Sonata, and loved the soundtrack and the scenes as well. They hope to visit the place where Kang Joon Sang and Jeong Yu Jin ride a bicycle on the tree-lined road in Nami Island on their first date. That scene was so romantic that many people visited the island.

Do you want to get into the drama, Winter Sonata? We invite you to Nami Island, where the most romantic scenes of Winter Sonata were filmed. In Nami Island, you can be Joon Sang and Yu Jin and follow the footmarks of them.

Gangchon Elysian Ski Resort is a deluxe leisure facility that is easily accessible from Seoul. Take the Gyeongchun Railway Line from Sangbong Station to Baegyang-ri (Elysian Gangchon) Station and you’ll find yourself walking through the doors of the resort in roughly an hour.

The ski resort has 6 lifts, snowboarding facilities, and 10 slopes for beginner, intermediate, and advanced skiers. Channel Park (the main snowboarding area) is designed for beginner and intermediate riders. Winter sports enthusiasts who need a little extra help with their techniques can sign up for boarding or skiing lessons before striking out on their own.

One thing that sets this resort apart from others is the relatively open layout of the slopes (all of which are 1km in length). By skiing down the ridges, skiers are treated to a wide-open view of the beautiful scenery. The ski resort is typically open from December to March of each year.
