This celadon antique porcelain dish is characterized by the maehwa (Korean plum blossom) motif consisting of jade green stalks and white and red blossoms inlaid onto the black surface. The tiny leaves of serene celadon glaze against the glossy black background create a wonderful contrast with the fully-blossomed white flowers with red centers. One of the sagunja ("four noble beings") motifs loved by Korean artists, maehwa refers to the Korean plum blossom that has long been the herald of spring.
