This lidded gray-white hand painted porcelain vase is decorated with a fully bloomed maehwa blossoms and a flying insect lured by the scent of maehwa flowers. The white background is ornamented with fine wave patterns. The serene color of the gray white glaze and the flowers painted in red and white create a delightful harmony. One of the sagunja ("four noble beings") motifs loved by Korean artists, maehwa refers to the Korean plum blossom that has long been the herald of spring.
